Respiration Chamber
RC400
Chamber for marine biologists wishing to measure respiration rates of larger aquatic animals including mussels and fry.
Features
- Respiration rate measurements without requirement for vigorous stirring of the water
- Minimal disturbance to animals during measurement contents
- Chamber volume of 730 ml
Overview
The RC400 Respiration Chamber was originally developed to meet the requirements of a research project on the respiration rate of mussels when exposed to pollution.
The chamber has a screwed lid which seals against an O-ring, and the lid has a central hole for the provided electrode holder and two tapered holes for the insertion of sealing bungs. There is a perforated false floor to separate the animal from the magnetic spinbar that is slowly rotated to mix the oxygen in the water. In use, the chamber would be placed in a constant temperature water bath, with a magnetic stirrer beneath it.
